It would be easy for me to make an instructional video on any activity or sport for the students to see. But where I ran into a problem was having the students use technology in the gym. It is extremely difficult to do this for a few reasons. Not many teachers have done this before so it is tough to find out what would work in this situation. Also many of the students still love P.E. the way it is ... in this case we get back to the age old statement "why fix it if it ain't broke?" However I do have few ideas that might work or atleast be considered by some teachers.
1. Video Project
Students must create a video showing the proper techniques and execution of any skill that from any unit we covered during the year in Physical Education. This project can be used as a final project for high school students grades 9-12 or just a final culminating project for seniors. The video must be throrough, edited, and polished. It also must be at least 3 minutes and no longer than 10 minutes. I think this will be a good way to assess the students on a physical activity that the pick, in an area that they believe they are talented in. We will count the video project as 25% of their final P.E. grade. It also can allow the teachers to keep the videos and show future classes videos of former students that the current students knew or have heard of. Finally it allows the students to express their abilities on the playing surfaces in a new and very creative way!
With ideas like this I have feeling that many other things may be changing in my P.E. Classes!
