Adding to Symphony

You want to know what Symphony really means to me. The other day in a game my team was able to do something that was pretty difficult, take something from practice and implement it to the game. We were able to clear the ball from one end of the field with only 4 passes and score a goal. Something that is not easy for any team, but especially us. It was really beautiful to watch everything come together so smoothly. It looked really great. To me Symphony in sports is that perfect play in any sport when everything just falls into place and comes together. We have recent memorable ones right here in NY from Derek Jeter's flip play against the A's or David Tyree's catch in the superbowl on Eli Manning's pass. Everyday in sports we see these things come together, some larger than others. That, to me, is what Symphony is all about.

I like the idea of symphony in sports. I can see it when watching my friends and I surfing there is a really cool/beautiful form of symphony that exists between the wave, water, surfboard, and rider. Especially when I watch someone riding a longboard in my opinion.. check it out:

I, too, love the idea of symphony is sports. . . I love the way cyclists look when they are riding in large groups all together... Like the tour du France - In all sports there is a level of skill that, when exhibited is quite remarkable. I appreciate well - orchestrated sports plays- hockey, for example, though very fast, has an element of movement - and being at the right place at the right time.. . similar to the way a musical symphony comes together for a performance.

Great blog, Matt!

Symphony is a huge part of sports! I never thought of it that way, I like your blog. Students also need to learn how things work together and after my last teaching experience in a middle school, I can see that a lot of children do not see how what they do effects others around them.

I think you did a great job explaining symphony and how it relates to sports. It sounds like your team worked well together and without that, you would not have been able to watch them execute that great play!!

I like how you related symphony to sports. It works perfectly with everything finally coming together for a team, or an individual. Sports have to have some sort of symphony, otherwise it would be a mess! Teams practice together everyday so they get the feel of being with each other so when it's game time, it all just flows together.

Matt-With all the thought I gave to symphony I never thought about sports but of course it's the perfect fit! All the diverse elements coming together to make something beautiful. Love your aha moment with your team. Don't you love when that happens. Something you've been studying in the abstract is suddenly so concrete.
Glad you're my symphony buddy. You've showed me a whole new angle.

Matt, your words in Symphony made me visualize the practice to the actual play. I guess whether it is sports, music or academics, when all one's hard work and practice comes together, it's awesome! Symphony in this case is the culmination of hard work, practice and teamwork, that when accomplished looks smooth and easy.
